Through over 11 months’ hard work, the 20,000-ton cathode copper project of CNMC Mabende Leaching Smelter Co., Ltd. (CNMC Mabende Leaching Smelter) on the investment by Sino-Metals Leach Zambia Limited (SMLZ), an enterprise of CNMC in Zambia, successfully produced the first batch of cathode copper at 14:30pm on March 14, 2014. 

On March 5, Luo Tao, a deputy to National People’s Congress and chairman of the board of CNMCL, received an interview by the reporter of the Topics in Focus: Strategies from the Two Sessions column of China Central Television. He told the reporter his feeling about the premier’s work report: “I am rather deeply impressed by our steady economic development. Last year, our GDP reached 56.9 trillion RMB, up by 7.7% over the previous year. Such achievement is extremely commendable.”

From February 20 to 28, 2014, Xu Shusen, vice secretary of CPC Committee for CNMC, the holding group of CNMCL, and chairman of the Trade Union of CNMC, paid an investigative visit to enterprises of CNMCL in Zambia, including Chambishi Copper Smelter Limited (CCS), NFC Africa Plc (NFCA), CNMC Luanshya Copper Mines Plc (CNMC Luanshya), and Sino-Metals Leach Zambia Limited (SMLZ). He gathered detailed information about the production and operation conditions and corporate culture construction of the aforesaid enterprises since the beginning of this year. 

From February 13 to 16, 2014, accompanied by Xu Shusen, vice secretary of CPC Committee for CNMC, the holding group of CNMCL, Zhang Bo, chairman of the Trade Union of Machinery, Metallurgy, and Building Material Industries of All China Federation of Trade Unions, paid an investigative visit to CNMCL-invested enterprises in Zambia.
