Tackling Technical Problems in Paste Filling of Western Ore Body of Zambia Chambishi Copper Mine has Achieved Obvious Effect
01 Jul 2015
According to a report of China Nonferrous Metals News, CNMC Scientific & Technical Achievement Evaluation Conference presided over by China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association was held at China Nonferrous Metals Mansion on May 26, and the scientific & technical achievement made in “Research on Key Technologies for Mining and Paste Filling of Broken and Gently Inclined Ore Body at Zambia Chambishi Copper Mine” jointly carried out by CNMC Africa Mining Co., Ltd. (“CNMC Africa”)- a company under CNMCL built in Zambia, University of Science and Technology Beijing and CNMC was considered to reach the international leading level in terms of stoping of water-rich, broken, gently inclined and medium-thick ore bodies.

As for the western ore body of Zambia Chambishi Copper Mine, occurrence conditions are complicated, angle of inclination is gentle, thickness is medium, underground water is abundant, ore-bearing rocks are broken and could easily become mud and disintegrate in water, and such problems as poor mining safety, low production capacity and high mining cost exist and are global problems about mining. It is a challenge that must be faced by CNMC Africa to solve these technical problems and to realize reaching output and standard and high-efficient mining. With the support from project establishment of science and technology plans “Experimental Research on Mining Methods for Gently Inclined and Broken Ore Deposit of Western Ore Body of Zambia Chambishi Copper Mine” and “Research on Key Technologies and Processes for Paste Filling of Zambia Chambishi Copper Mine” in 2010 and in 2012, CNMC Africa summarized many years’ experience in overseas technical problem tackling and established a joint problem tackling group with mining experts of University of Science and Technology Beijing. Through unremitting efforts for over 4 years, the group overcame lots of difficulties in overseas scientific research, developed partitioned and graded support technology for complicated broken ore-bearing rocks, established Zambia’s first paste filling system based on deep-cone thickener technology, and tackled key technical problems for realizing safe and high-efficient mining of water-rich and broken ore body, which provided reliable technical support for safe and high-efficient mining.

By tackling technical problems in this project, CNMC Africa further explored a “joint problem tackling mode with enterprises under CNMCL in Zambia as the subject, the market as the orientation and the headquarters as the bond” and the principle of “scientific research serving production and testing stope being production stope”, cultivated a lot of business experts and enhanced the level of safe management on the mine and level of mining technology, which laid a solid technical foundation for construction of western ore body and southeastern ore body and sustainable development in the future.
