Zambia local time, July 20th, 2014, Mr Zhang Keli, secretary of the party committee of China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Co., Ltd (CNMC), while visiting a Zambia funded enterprise, had a meeting with Mr Alexander B. Chikwanda, Zambia’s Finance Minister. Mr Tao Xinghu, CNMC’s CEO, was also present.
During the meeting, Mr Zhang first relayed the warm greetings from Mr Luo Tao, CNMC’s president, to Mr Chikwanda, then expressed gratitude to the minister and his ministry for their long time support of and help with CNMC’s investment and development in Zambia, and introduced to the minister CNMC’s investment and development, production and operation, and social responsibility fulfillment in Zambia. Mr Zhang said that, CNMC would stick to the principle of equality and mutual benefits, together with the Zambian government and people, scale up the investment in Zambia to create more job opportunities, and boost local social development and economic growth. Mr Zhang hoped that, the Zambian government would increase its support for CNMC’s investment and development in the country and assist the company in resolving practical problems.
Mr Chikwanda believed that, it was part of this Zambian administration’s duty, and his as well, to help CNMC grow faster in Zambia. He elaborated the Finance Ministry’s new initiatives on VAT returns and the reform of the mining taxation system, and hoped that CNMC would continue with the construction of Lusaka Industrial Park in the Zambia-China Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, and make new progress in service diversification. Mr Chikwanda expressed his willingness to coordinate responsible Zambian departments and enterprises, to resolve the problems that may surface during the construction of Lusaka Industrial Park. He hoped that CNMC would grow better and faster in Zambia.
