Commissioning Ceremony of China NonferrousMabendeMetal Leach Project Successfully Held

With national flags of China and Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) fluttering gaily in the wind, the merry dance with rich African features conveys joy of people. On 18 April 2014, the commissioning ceremony of the 20000 tons of copper cathode hydrometallurgical project (referred to as Mabende project) of China NonferrousMabende Metal Leach Co., Ltd (CNMM), the funding enterprise of Chambishi Copper Smelter Limited (CCS) in the DRC was successfully held. The scale and development speed of the project has created a new record of the company’s overseas development, highlighting the positive contribution of China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Co., Ltd. (CNMC) to consolidate and deepen the traditional friendship between China and DRC, which is also another achievement of the friendly bilateral economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
Representatives attending the ceremony include: Moise, the Governor of Katanga Province of DRC;Audax, Deputy Minister 2 of Mining Ministry of DRC; Tao Luo, General Manager andChairman of the Board of CNMC; Xinghu Tao, Vice Chairman and President of CNMC; KaishouXie,Vice President of CNMC andGeneral Manager of CCS; and government officials of Katanga province, Chinese business representatives in the DRC and representatives from relevant financial institutions, a total of more than 120 guests. The ceremony was presided over by PresidentXinghuTao.
In the warm applause, Chairman TaoLuo gave a warm speech. He pointed out that the unbreakable friendship between Chinese people and theDRC peoplewas an inexhaustible incentive for the Chinese companies to tap into DRC, rooted here to achieve common development. Being one of the "Fortune 500" companies, CNMC was also the Chinese enterprise with the largest investment in the central and southern Africa. CNMC and the African people had gone through thick and thin since its initial investment in 1998, and with common experience and mutual participation, we had witnessed the economic development and social progress in Africa. Up to now, CNMC had provided a total investment of over 2.6 billion dollars and 12,500 jobs for Africa, becoming the best practitionerof "all-weather Sino-African friendship". Chairman 3 TaoLuo stressed that under the care of both governments, CNMC would continue to deepen its investment and cooperation in the DRC, striving to make new and greater contributions to the friendly exchanges and trade between China and DRC.
Governor Lewis firstly gave warm congratulations to the successful commissioning of Mabende project in his speech, and high appraisal to the investment and development of the company in DRC as well as its contribution to local economic and social development. He expressed his hope that the two countries could join hands to deepen the friendly cooperation between the two countries, to achieve a greater sense of common development.
After the ceremony, Chairman TaoLuo, President Xinghu Taoconducted in-depth exchanges with Governor Lewis on the investment and development of the company in the DRC.
Located in the Mabende area of Katanga province of DRC, Mabende project was designed for an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons of copper cathode. With a total investment of 148 million dollars, the construction was initiated on April 4, 2013 with the output of the first batch of copper 4 cathode on March 14, 2014. With the scale and construction speed of the project having broken the record of the company’s overseas investment, the project was regarded as another milestone of the company’s investment and development in the central and southern Africa.
